What are Filament Barbs like?
The Filament Barb is a large, lively cyprinid with a deep-bodied profile, shimmering golden to olive coloration and dark markings along the flanks. Mature males develop especially striking breeding colours, with red or orange tones and elongated rays extending from the dorsal fin, giving the species its common name.
These active fish are usually found in groups and spend much of their time swimming through the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. They are energetic without being inherently aggressive, although poorly sized groups or cramped conditions can make fin-nipping and chasing more likely.
