Blue Grass DBS RB Guppies are ornamental fancy guppies prized for their vivid blue and red coloration, intricate tail patterning and flowing fins. “DBS RB” is used by breeders to describe a particular line or colour combination, although the exact appearance can vary between strains and suppliers. Males are usually the more intensely coloured sex, with an elongated, fan-shaped caudal fin and a small, pointed anal fin modified into a gonopodium.

These guppies are active, peaceful swimmers that spend much of their time in the middle and upper levels of the aquarium. They are curious and responsive to movement outside the glass, and a group creates constant colour and activity without being aggressive toward other community fish.

Poecilia reticulata is naturally associated with shallow, slow-moving waters such as streams, pools, drainage channels and vegetated margins. Wild populations encounter varied conditions, from clear forest streams to warm, mineral-rich habitats, and often shelter among aquatic plants and surface cover.

The Blue Grass DBS RB Guppy is a captive-bred fancy strain rather than a naturally occurring wild variety. Selective breeding has enhanced its colour and finnage, but individual fish may differ in the balance of blue, red, black and iridescent markings. Like other fancy guppies, it is a livebearer with a fast reproductive cycle and a lively personality.

This selectively bred colour form belongs to Poecilia reticulata, a species native to northern South America, including Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and parts of Brazil. Wild guppies have also been introduced to tropical regions around the world, while the Blue Grass DBS RB pattern is developed in captivity rather than associated with a specific wild locality.

A small group can be kept in an aquarium of around 40 litres, although a larger tank is preferable for a mixed-sex group or a growing colony. A footprint of at least 60 × 30 cm is a useful minimum guideline, with additional length providing more swimming space. Use gentle filtration with a covered intake, open areas for swimming and dense live plants such as guppy grass, Java moss or water sprite for cover and fry shelter. Fine gravel or sand works well, while floating plants can provide shade without blocking the surface. A secure lid is recommended because guppies may jump.

Males usually reach up to about 3.5 cm (1.4 in), while females can grow to approximately 6 cm (2.4 in), excluding the tail. Fancy strains may show some variation in adult size, and females are generally larger and deeper-bodied than males.

Offer a varied omnivorous diet based on high-quality small flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia and other suitably sized frozen or live foods. Spirulina-based foods and finely softened vegetables can provide useful plant matter. Feed small portions once or twice daily, giving only what the fish consume promptly, especially because excess food can quickly affect water quality in a small aquarium.

Blue Grass DBS RB Guppies are suitable for peaceful community aquariums with similarly sized fish. Good tankmates include small tetras, rasboras, white cloud mountain minnows in appropriate temperatures, peaceful corydoras, otocinclus, kuhli loaches and other non-aggressive livebearers. Avoid fin-nipping species such as tiger barbs, aggressive or predatory fish, and large cichlids. Long-finned males can be particularly vulnerable to fin nipping, and mixing them with other guppy strains may produce mixed-colour offspring.

Blue Grass DBS RB Guppies are prolific livebearers and readily breed in a healthy aquarium. Keep several females with each male to reduce persistent courtship, and provide dense fine-leaved plants or spawning mops where fry can hide. Females give birth to free-swimming young after roughly 21–30 days, depending on temperature. Adults may eat the fry, so use a separate breeding setup or remove the female after delivery; feed the young powdered flakes, suitably sized fry food and newly hatched brine shrimp.

Males are smaller, slimmer and much more brightly coloured, with enlarged patterned tails and a gonopodium instead of a normal anal fin. Females are larger and rounder-bodied, usually less intensely coloured, and may show a dark gravid spot near the rear of the abdomen when carrying developing young.
